Fear of Others: Social
Anxiety Treatment
There are a number people who develop a fear of being in social situations, normally large
crowds where they know few people. This is probably one of the worse types of anxiety and needs to get this
social anxiety treated quickly as it can lead to depression which is can prove to be a major impediment to
living life happily and without fear. The person will develop such severe symptoms that they will
have panic attacks when they even think about going into a social situation.
The social anxiety treatment for each
individual will vary depending on the person and the underlying causes for their social anxiety. Some will find it
relatively easy to go into social situations once they have talked to a therapist while others have to have
medication to help them deal with their issues and even get them out of their front door.
Types of
Treatment
Some individuals will seek and need
professional help in their social anxiety treatment. A good psychologist can help them to identify the underlying
causes and will give them tools to use to help to overcome it. If the persons underlying causes have developed in
childhood that too can be examined and overcome through the help of the therapist, though it could take longer to
sort out as their problems have had years to bury itself into their sub-conscious.

Those who have had a really bad experience in
a social situation can also be helped to see that the situation should not be the leading force in their lives. All
this can only happen if a person is truthful with their psychologist, and will then be able to examined and broken
down into understandable and manageable parts, then the individuals can start to work on the lifestyle changes
needed in social anxiety treatment.
The lifestyle changes the individual may need
to change can also lead to other issues when they start their Social anxiety treatment. They will stop eating or
drinking certain things. Individuals with social anxiety should not drink caffeine since this tends to make them
feel more jittery and anxious than if they do not drink it.
The person needs to be able to stay relaxed,
caffeine does the opposite for the individual. The person also has to stop drinking or should only drink in
moderation. Alcohol can help to calm the nerves but it also reduces the cognitive capability of the person so that
he or she is less likely to be able to talk themselves through the situation and avoid an anxiety attack. Smoking
is another activity that must be stopped in social anxiety treatment. People do believe it helps them to relax but
it doesn’t ( mind you it depends on what you are smoking?) it is a stimulant that does not help with the relaxation
of the individual. If the person finds it is hard to sleep then medication is sometimes needed as well in their
social anxiety treatment Beta blockers or antidepressants help this.
